那 句 英 文 其 實 是 說 ： 「 （ 智 能 身 份 證 、 特 區 護 照 ） 這 一 切 ， 假 如 沒 有 劉 淑 儀 的 運 動 褲 和 眼 淚 ， 就 不 會 生 效 了 。 」 Sweat 解 作 「 汗 水 」 ， 是 不 可 數 名 詞 （ uncountable noun ） ； 複 數 形 式 的 sweats ， 則 是 sweatpants （ 寬 鬆 運 動 長 褲 ） 的 俗 稱 。 至 於 to bear fruit ， 是 英 文 成 語 ， 指 「 產 生 效 果 」 ， 那 fruit 不 可 用 複 數 形 式 fruits ， 例 如 ： His hard work is bearing fruit （ 他 的 努 力 開 始 有 成 果 ） 。 我 們 的 身 份 證 、 護 照 等 ， 原 來 要 在 劉 淑 儀 運 動 褲 胯 下 才 能 有 效 ， 他 們 不 說 ， 我 還 不 知 道 。 為 求 這 些 證 件 繼 續 產 生 效 果 ， 劉 淑 儀 請 珍 重 運 動 褲 胯 下 。 全 港 市 民 有 厚 望 焉 。
看 傳 單 的 中 文 ， 則 說 智 能 身 份 證 、 特 區 護 照 等 「 一 切 都 是 葉 劉 淑 儀 的 心 血 汗 水 」 ， 那 麼 ， 英 文 應 是 All these are the result of Regina's painstaking efforts 。 智 能 身 份 證 原 來 是 劉 淑 儀 的 心 血 ， 他 們 不 說 ， 我 還 以 為 應 歸 功 於 電 子 技 師 。

A number of 意 思 等 於 some （ 一 些 ） ， 所 以 必 須 用 複 數 形 式 動 詞 ， 例 如 ： A number of mistakes were spotted （ 找 到 了 一 些 錯 誤 ） 。 但 請 留 意 ： the number of 指 「 … … 的 數 目 」 ， 而 一 個 數 目 是 單 數 的 ， 所 以 須 配 單 數 形 式 動 詞 ， 例 如 ： The number of mistakes （ which were ） spotted was five （ 找 到 的 錯 誤 有 五 個 ） 。
Piece 常 用 來 說 不 可 數 名 詞 （ uncountable noun ） ， 使 不 可 數 成 為 可 數 ， a piece （ 一 個 ） 當 然 配 單 數 形 式 動 詞 ， two pieces （ 兩 個 ） 則 配 複 數 ， 例 如 ： There is an important piece of news / There are two important pieces of news （ 有 一 個 / 兩 個 重 要 消 息 ） 。
A bunch of 、 a host of 、 a total of 、 a set of 等 指 「 一 群 」 、 「 一 眾 」 、 「 一 組 」 等 的 詞 語 ， 其 後 用 複 數 名 詞 ， 動 詞 一 般 也 是 用 複 數 形 式 ， 原 因 有 二 。 第 一 ， 那 複 數 名 詞 比 bunch 、 host 等 單 數 名 詞 較 為 接 近 動 詞 ， 動 詞 受 其 影 響 較 大 。 第 二 ， A bunch of children were playing happily （ 一 群 孩 子 正 在 玩 得 高 高 興 興 ） 等 於 The children were playing happily 而 不 是 A bunch was playing happily ， 意 思 上 動 詞 也 應 用 複 數 。
不 過 ， 也 有 些 人 堅 守 文 法 ， 認 為 A bunch of boys were playing happily 之 類 句 子 的 主 詞 （ subject ） 是 bunch 而 不 是 boys ， 所 以 會 用 單 數 形 式 動 詞 ， 說 A bunch of boys was playing happily 等 。 這 樣 的 說 法 不 大 自 然 ， 也 較 為 少 見 。

At the end of the day 一 般 解 作 「 說 到 底 」 或 「 最 後 」 ， 例 如 ： At the end of the day, what counts in international politics is not right but might （ 說 到 底 ， 國 際 政 治 最 重 要 的 不 是 公 義 ， 而 是 強 權 ） 。 那 「 說 到 底 」 、 「 最 後 」 的 意 思 ， 本 是 「 一 天 結 束 時 」 意 思 的 引 伸 ， 字 典 沒 有 「 一 天 結 束 時 」 這 解 釋 ， 不 等 於 說 這 解 釋 錯 誤 ， 只 是 認 為 沒 有 必 要 解 釋 而 已 。 你 大 可 以 說 ： The labourers come to work at nine every morning, and go home at the end of the day （ 工 人 每 天 早 上 九 時 到 來 工 作 ， 晚 上 就 回 家 去 ） 。 讀 者 示 下 那 一 句 ， at the end of the day 當 然 是 指 「 那 天 結 束 時 」 ， 不 是 「 說 到 底 」 。
除 了 at the end of the day ， 英 文 還 有 at the end of the week / month / year / century 等 說 法 ， 指 「 一 個 星 期 / 一 個 月 / 一 年 / 一 個 世 紀 結 束 時 」 ， 只 是 這 些 說 法 沒 有 什 麼 特 別 的 引 伸 意 思 。
Thanks （ 謝 謝 ） 之 前 ， 常 聽 到 有 人 加 many 、 thousand 等 形 容 詞 ， 是 正 確 用 法 嗎 ？
Thank 是 不 可 數 （ uncountable ） 的 ， 「 謝 謝 你 幫 忙 」 不 可 譯 做 A thank for you help 。 不 過 ， 複 數 形 式 的 thanks 往 往 冠 以 many 、 a thousand 、 ten thousand 等 形 容 詞 ， 以 示 「 非 常 感 謝 」 ， 例 如 ： Ten thousand thanks for your help!

其 實 人 家 說 Thank you ， 你 不 一 定 要 回 答 ， 報 以 一 笑 也 無 不 可 。
A Hong Kong-based company （ 總 部 設 在 香 港 的 公 司 ） 這 詞 語 ， 要 不 要 在 Hong Kong 二 字 之 間 加 連 字 號 （ hyphen ） ？
由 兩 個 或 幾 個 字 合 成 的 形 容 詞 ， 假 如 不 是 合 寫 成 一 字 ， 一 般 會 用 連 字 號 把 各 字 連 起 來 ， 例 如 a three-year-old child （ 一 個 三 歲 孩 子 ） 、 a do-it-yourself project （ 自 助 計 劃 ） 、 a three-mintue walk （ 三 分 鐘 步 行 ） 等 。 但 是 ， 假 如 那 形 容 詞 之 中 有 個 專 有 名 詞 （ proper noun ） ， 那 專 有 名 詞 之 間 習 慣 不 用 連 字 號 ， 例 如 a Hong Kong-based company 、 a Untied Nations-like organisation （ 和 聯 合 國 相 似 的 組 織 ） 、 a New York-bound plane （ 往 紐 約 的 飛 機 ） 。
「 官 商 勾 結 」 英 文 怎 麼 說 ？
「 官 商 勾 結 」 可 譯 做 collusion between businessmen and government officials ， 例 如 ： Collusion between businessmen and government officials has become a common phenomenon in Hong Kong （ 官 商 勾 結 在 香 港 已 是 司 空 見 慣 ） 。

Note: Some feminists hate "businessmen". In these cases, use "businessperson"
